This past Saturday I took in the late showing of Rorschach's Myth Appropriation: Urban Legends. The medley of six short plays was a fun diversion that had the audience laughing from the spooky stories. Co-artistic directors, Jenny McConnell Frederick and Randy Baker, explained the rationale for the show as a way to expand upon a twenty-four hour play writing competition. By turning it into a week long event where the playwrights work with a dramaturg, directors, actors and technicians, everyone experiences a more polished end product. Thus the page-to-stage time is an incredibly quick seven day journey.

Thoughts

Took in two vastly different shows over the weekend and both offered up some great times. The first was Friday night's drag variety show Journey to Your Uranus, which was staged by area cabaret group Crack and hosted by drag queen -- and Crack co-founder -- Summer Camp. This was Crack's sixth show since 2006 and featured area performers who have fallen through the cracks (get it?) of traditional performance routes. |
